How to Make a Better Lawn

Lawn Preparation Guide:
Whether the purpose is to create spaces for recreational use or maintain sports field or simply add aesthetic appeal to the outdoors, the lawn adequately suffices. Planted with grass, clover, plants, etc., the lawn is a special area, which certainly refreshes up and thus saves from the otherwise chaotic surroundings. These green spaces, depending upon the effort extended towards setup and maintenance can also be categorized in the low maintenance gardens section. Under the same head, lawn maintenance can be labour intensive or more dependent upon machines like lawn movers; the same is essentially your call.

Before getting on to the lawn preparation nuances, it is also pertinent to briefly touch upon the criticism associated with lawns. Many are of the opinion, that because lawns usually constitute selected plant themes, they disturb the ecological balance. Also because modern lawns depend too much upon machines and fertilizers, they end up harming the environment. In few countries, water scarcity is also a reason behind anti lawn thoughts.

Getting started: How to Lay Turf
Setting up the lawn is not an easy task. Yes it is possible to proceed so that it turns out to be part of a the low maintenance garden but the initial effort cannot be bypassed. The aspects to be paid attention in reply to the how to lay turf question are as below.

Ground preparation is the first step i.e. if there are weeds; a good weed killer is to be applied. All the stones, rubbish and such material must be cleared off the site. Drainage of the selected land is to be paid attention; digging should help with this objective. The top soil needs to be properly aerated and levelled in the initial stages of how to lay turf process. Once the ground is ready, get your turf for laying. Ideally should try laying the turf same day as it has been ordered. Ensure to order slightly more than the exact requirement, because about 5 % of it will be wasted during the process.

Begin the laying exercise with the longest edge. Keep for some shrinkage and do not over stretch. Once laid down, the turf should be tapped down, thereby ensuring that the roots are in touch with the soil. Also, while understanding the how to lay turf concept, make sure to keep the smaller sections towards the interiors. The stated is important because if these small patches are placed on the exterior and not adequately watered, they’ll die out fast. Placing them inside, will require little care on this account. Lawn edging must also be paid due attention. There are various materials which can be selected for lawn edging viz., wood, metal, bricks, etc. Depending upon the preferred material, lawn edging type can be decided. Thus if it is bricks, brick lawn edging is the term used. Lawn seed sowing is another important aspect. To sow the lawn seed, it is best to divide the area into manageable sections and thereafter take up the task. The same helps with maintenance and even balancing.

Trimming is the next step. After completion, the turf demands little extra care in the first few weeks. That is do not exert much pressure on the turf, water it adequately, regularly cut the grass, etc. Once the grass is 5-8 cm high, lawn mover gets into action. You can purchase new one or settle with available second hand lawn movers, but be careful with the task. Lawn movers should regularly get into action, but not more than one third of the growth to be moved in one cut.
